Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz says Lewis Hamilton is “one of the best in history”, and he wants to “continue sharing the grid with him”.

After the controversial ending of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Toto Wolff said he hopes Lewis Hamilton will continue driving in Formula 1 on 2022, but he wasn’t able to confirm it for sure.

In an interview with Marca, Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz was asked to give his comments on the speculation about the Briton possibly quitting the sport.

“I don’t know. I hope Hamilton doesn’t retire,” Sainz said.

“I want to continue racing with him. He’s one of the best in history, and I want to continue sharing the grid with him.”

During the race in Abu Dhabi, Sainz was one of the drivers who immediately disagreed with race director Michael Masi’s decision to call in the Safety Car to allow one more lap of racing, even though proper protocols were not followed.

“I think it would be unfair to restart this race. We should stay behind the safety car,” Sainz told his race engineer.

After the message was acknowledged by the engineer, Sainz added: “It gives a massive advantage to some people.”

One of those people was Max Verstappen who was given the race win and the 2021 title on a silver platter.
