Four-time Formula 1 champion Alain Prost says Lewis Hamilton’s fantastic Brazilian Sprint Race performance from the back of the grid is not going to be repeated “every time and with every driver”.

After being disqualified form Brazilian Grand Prix Qualifying due to a technical infringement, Lewis Hamilton was required to start Saturday’s Sprint Qualifying from last on the grid.

What followed was a masterclass drive that saw Lewis go from P20 to P5 in only 24 laps.

This caused some people within Formula 1 to start pushing for reverse grid races, hoping that they would regularly bring the excitement of watching top drivers cut through the field.

However, Alain Prost doesn’t believe Hamilton’s exceptional drive can be repeated every time and by everyone.

“I am completely against the reverse grid [races], for sure,” the Frenchman told the ‘In the Fast Lane’ podcast.

“Formula 1 should not accept that, even for the sprint. It’s not because Lewis has done a fantastic race starting from last that we should think that it’s going to be the same every time and with every driver.

“That does not happen like this. So I am much more for the tradition, and Formula 1 has to stay the way it did.

“I must recognise that we have more and more young fans, with the Netflix series, and we have attracted some young people, young generation, which is fantastic.

“And they obviously like this kind of race that we have seen, the sprint race and Lewis’ race in Brazil, but Formula 1 has to stay more traditional,” Prost concluded.
