Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff congratulated Max Verstappen and Christian Horner on their championship win and now he reveals what their response was.
After the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Max Verstappen revealed Toto Wolff congratulated him on his championship win via text message.
German publication Bild asked Wolff what Verstappen’s response was. He first asked if they wanted him to relay the response “word for word”, and they confirmed.
“Thank you very much. It was a tough fight, I’m looking forward to next year,” the Austrian quoted Max’s words.
Wolff was then asked if he had congratulated Red Bull team boss Christian Horner too.

“Yes, that should be done. He wrote to me that it was a good duel and that we shouldn’t forget that we are eight-time constructors’ champions and that the money is there.”
Bild then said the message was in contrast to what Horner said after the race when he called Wolff and Mercedes ‘sore losers’.
“These are things that arise from emotions. We don’t take that personally. They deserve the win.”
Wolff was then asked if Mercedes will return “harder” in 2022.
“We have put all the levers on it and want to win both world championships again next year,” he concluded.
