Lewis Hamilton is not worried about whether Mercedes was able to produce a title-challenging car, because “whether it’s good or bad, we will work through it”.
As the 2022 Formula 1 testing started in Barcelona, Lewis Hamilton was one of the first drivers to take a stroll around the pit lane to check out rival cars.
The Briton later explained to the media why he was so eager to see the competition.
“This morning, arriving and looking down the pit lane and seeing all the different cars, I think it’s one of the most exciting and interesting seasons that I’ve ever embarked upon,” Hamilton said.
“It’s interesting to see what other teams have done, in terms of sidepod designs and the front wings, the floor. It’s completely brand new.
“I’ve seen designs of our car over several months, but to see everyone else’s cars out there, I was just trying to get a close eye to see if I could see everything and why different teams had chosen different routes.

“We have absolutely no idea where we stand. All the cars are probably overweight, they’re heavier than they’ve ever been. I’m glad people have been able to stop them so far.
“I hope these rules deliver in terms of closer racing. It puts everyone on a closer playing field.”
When asked if he worries that Mercedes’ new car would not be able to challenge for the title in 2022, Lewis said he has full faith in his team.
“Why would I ever feel that way? My team don’t make mistakes. Of course that’s a risk, but I trust the team.
“Whether it’s good or bad, we will work through it,” Hamilton concluded.
