In an awkward holiday social media post, Red Bull jokes that “the turkey might’ve taken us over budget”, and pokes fun at Mercedes and Ferrari.

Red Bull had fun this holiday season with a social media image that joked about their 2021 budget cap breach which got the team penalized. They also poked fun at Mercedes’ porpoising issue, while depicting a model of the Mercedes W13 and the Ferrari F1-75 in an “unwanted toys” box.

Red Bull is the only team that has breached the 2021 budget cap, which garnered strong reactions from the team’s competitors, as well as F1 media, fans, and observers.

For this transgression the FIA handed Red Bull a $7 million fine and an aerodynamic testing reduction, which rival teams found to be a light penalty, while Red Bull’s team boss Christian Horner called it ‘draconian’.

Well, it seems that the team is not too bothered by this, as they decided to joke about it with an image they posted on social media.

The image depicts the team surrounded by Christmas ornaments, with Santa Claus handing them a turkey, along with the words: “The turkey might’ve taken us over budget…”

There’s also a toy box for the Red Bull RB18, with “zero porpoising” written on it, while next to it is a box of “unwanted toys”, with a Mercedes and a Ferrari dumped into it.

The Mercedes is shown bouncing its way to the box, an obvious reference to the German team’s year-long battle with porpoising.

While it’s ok to have fun with certain issues, a budget cap breach is a serious offence that some have even described as “cheating”, so some might say this “joke” is actually in very poor taste.

You can take a look at the image below, and decide for yourself.
