Yesterday rumours started circulating that Mercedes has encountered issues with the W14 during its first run, but the team says they were “without foundation”.
Yesterday Mercedes launched its 2023 car – the W14, and immediately afterwards George Russell took it for a spin around Silverstone.
Ahead of the launch, the team announced they would be releasing some on-track footage later in the evening, but ultimately only a video of Russell exiting the pits was posted on social media.
Afterwards we reported that Russell only did 15km with the car, but that Mercedes had a 100km filming day scheduled for Thursday.
At the same time rumours started circulating on social media that Mercedes encountered a problem with the car, more specifically a fire-up issue with its power unit.

We never reported this, because it seemed completely unsubstantiated, and now a Mercedes spokesperson has officially denied these rumours and said they were “without foundation”.
The team clarified that on Wednesday they had a short “demo day”, while on Thursday they had a longer “filming day” scheduled.
Today, the W14 took to the track again, and Mercedes already released several photos and videos of the car in action.
