Red Bull team boss Christian Horner says Mercedes have “obviously committed a significant part of their budget cap to this upgrade”.
Mercedes’ upgrade package for the W14, that was introduced in Monaco, is garnering a lot of attention from the paddock, as it is so significant it could almost be called a redesign.
Naturally, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner was also asked to give his comments.
“Well, to be honest, I haven’t had an in depth look at the upgrades,” Horner said.
“Obviously, visually, they look a bit different. But sometimes the visual things actually have the least performance impact.

“It’s what’s usually underneath the skin or the finer detail that has the biggest impact.”
But Horner, the head of the only team that has breached the budget cap since the regulation was introduced, also used the opportunity to point out how Mercedes must have spent a lot of their budget on these upgrades.
“So obviously they’ve bought a significant amount of parts, so they’ve obviously committed a significant part of their budget cap to this upgrade.
“And it’s up to a team how and when it applies it,” the Briton concluded.
