Amid (false) rumours that Ferrari is preparing an offer for Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc says “anybody on the grid would love to have Lewis as a team-mate, as everybody would learn a lot from him”.

Ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix, there were a lot of rumours flying around, saying that Ferrari has been preparing a contract offer for Lewis Hamilton. This has since been denied by both Ferrari and Lewis himself.

However, the media likes to speculate, so they cheekily asked Charles Leclerc to explain what he looks for in a team-mate.

The Monegasque driver used the opportunity to make a joke about the rumours.

“Hello, Lewis!” he said, while Hamilton was seated next to him at the Monaco Grand Prix press conference.

“A fast team-mate, as everybody in Formula 1 we love to be fighting against the best. But that’s not to say that my team-mate is not fast.

“Carlos [Sainz] is an extremely fast driver. But considering that I am not the person who makes the choices – let’s see.”

Asked whether he would welcome Hamilton at Ferrari, Leclerc said:

“If I say yes, I imagine it being the title of every newspaper…

“Lewis is such an incredible driver, he has achieved so much in the sport, I think anybody on the grid would love to have Lewis as a team-mate, as everybody would learn a lot from him.

“But I am happy where I am and with Carlos it’s a great relationship too,” he concluded.
