After a great result at the Spanish Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton says if Mercedes “can get close” to Red Bull “by the end of the year, that’d be awesome”.
It seems that Mercedes’ upgrades are working! The team had a great race in Spain, with Lewis Hamilton finishing in P2, and George Russell in P3.
Afterwards, Lewis was overjoyed.
“What an awesome crowd,” the Briton said.
“Gracias to everyone in Barcelona! What a result for our team. We definitely didn’t expect to have the result that we had today.
“So I really want to take my hat off to my team. A big, big thank you to everyone back at the factory for continuing to push, and bring us closer to the Red Bulls.

“They are still a bit ahead but we’ll keep chasing them down. This is an amazing result. George did a great job as well.”
Asked if he has hope that Mercedes can catch Red Bull this year, Lewis said:
“I think they’re still a little bit too quick at the moment, but we’re working at it. Just one step at a time, and if we can get close by the end of the year, that’d be awesome.
“But, if not, then next year,” Hamilton concluded.
