Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher says Lewis Hamilton “proved that he can get more potential out of the car for one lap”, and praises him for apologizing to his team.

At Hungarian Grand Prix Qualifying, Lewis Hamilton once again outperformed his car and managed to beat Max Verstappen in a superior Red Bull, to claim his first pole position since 2021.

In his Sky Germany column, former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher praised Lewis’ performance.

“Hamilton had a great qualifying,” Schumacher wrote.

“[He] loves the track, he drove to the point and proved that he can get more potential out of the car for one lap.“

In the race, however, Lewis had a relatively bad start and ultimately dropped from P1 to P4. He then proceeded to apologize to his team over the radio.

Schumacher says this move is a sign of “greatness”.

“In the race, however, [Lewis] then botched the start and gambled away his podium chance early on.

“Immediately after the mistake he apologized to the team – that shows greatness,” the German concluded.
