Lewis Hamilton says 2023 “didn’t start where we wanted to be at the beginning of the year, but we just made a lot of progress”, and he hopes “there’ll be a lot more in the second phase”.
Ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton was asked to give his verdict on the first half of the 2023 season.
“I think it’s been decent,” the Briton said.
“We didn’t start where we wanted to be at the beginning of the year, but we just made a lot of progress.
“It’s been a huge amount of progress over the season so far, and hoping that there’ll be a lot more in the second phase.”

Asked whether he thinks Mercedes can win a race this season, he said:
“At the moment, I’m not quite sure we can currently compete with them on race pace.
“I think there were times in the last race Max was around eight tenths faster than everyone on a single lap.
“But never say never,” Hamilton concluded.
