Toto Wolff reveals how Hamilton’s engineer Bono reacted to his exit

After Lewis Hamilton’s exit from Mercedes has been announced, fans started wondering if his race engineer Peter Bonnington – Bono will join him. Toto Wolff reveals Bono’s reaction to the news.

The news of Lewis Hamilton’s exit from Mercedes at the end of 2024 has sent shockwaves through the Formula 1 world. Even more shocking was his decision to join none other than Ferrari in 2025.

One of the questions that quickly emerged among fans was whether Lewis’ long-time race engineer Peter Bonnington – Bono, the main who made the phrase ‘Lewis, it’s Hammertime’ famous, will join the seven-time champion at the Italian team.

Well, when asked who might follow Lewis to Ferrari, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff revealed Bono’s reaction to the news.

“This is a discussion which everyone needs to have in the months to come,” the Austrian said.

“As much as I have spoken with Bono already, when I told him [about Hamilton’s decision], he said: ‘Is it April 1?’

“That’s something we will discuss in the future,” Wolff concluded.
