Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur says the calls to Carlos Sainz and Toto Wolff after his team signed Lewis Hamilton, were “one of the most difficult”.

After Ferrari signed Lewis Hamilton to a “multi-year contract”, team boss Frederic Vasseur had the difficult task of informing his current driver Carlos Sainz that he was out of a racing seat for 2025.

He also had to inform his long-time friend – Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff – that he was out of a racing driver.

Vasseur admits these calls were “one of the most difficult” in his life.

“As you can imagine, it was not the easiest call of my life,” the Frenchman said.

“[It was] one of the most difficult, [along] with the one with Toto!

“I’m fully convinced he’s a very professional driver, that he understands that we have a long season in front of us.

“It’s a huge opportunity, and I think it’s also a dream to be in this situation, to have the team behind him.

“I think we had a long discussion as you can imagine, but I will be fully supportive of Carlos, he is fully committed, and we know that we have to do the job together.

“We are together, we are professional,” Vasseur concluded.
