Mercedes’ Technical Director James Allison says the team has “largely” solved the issues that have been plaguing them for the past two years.
When Formula 1’s new rules kicked in in 2022, Mercedes was one of the teams strongly affected by ‘porpoising’ and bouncing, as well as a myriad of other issues.
The problems extended into 2023, but now after completing 2024 pre-season testing, the team’s Technical Director James Allison says they have now “largely” been solved.
“I think we largely have,” the Briton told Sky Sports F1.
“Bouncing is still a threshold that all the cars in the pitlane will work up against until this generation of car moves onto something different.

“So there is still some bouncing we can bury ourselves in or come out of, just in pursuit of what the right performance compromise is.
“But the horrid, snappy rear end, that is happily not troubling us as it did in the past.”
Asked how they managed to solve the issues, Allison explained:
“It is mostly mechanical changes on the car, but it is always a marriage between the aerodynamic behaviour through the corner and the suspension,” he concluded.
