Lewis Hamilton says his winter has been “difficult” and “unusual”, leading up to January when “everything kind of turned upside down”.
Back in August of 2023 Lewis Hamilton signed a new two-year deal with Mercedes, however in January of 2024 he decided to activate his exit clause and sign with Ferrari for 2025.
So, what happened? At the pre-Bahrain Grand Prix press conference, Lewis discussed about his “difficult” and “unusual” winter.
“It was a difficult winter I would say and very unusual,” the Briton said.
“There was a lot of deep thought throughout December. Things [have been] going on with management which is taking a lot of time to reshape and that’s never an easy process, but it’s all amicable and now it is [about] working on rebuilding my own team.
“I have a lot of things that I want to do and I know exactly what I want to do. It’s about finding good people to add into your team, making sure that it’s diverse and so that’s always at the heart of what I try to maintain to put in place.”

What Lewis is talking about is his split with manager Penni Thow and the Copper management team, and the return of his old friend and manager Marc Hynes.
Then, came January of 2024 when he received a serious offer from Ferrari.
“Then January, everything kind of turned upside down in terms of when the [Ferrari] option came up.
“And [there was] a lot of time alone trying to make sure you’re doing your due diligence and you’re making the right decision for yourself.
“And I feel like I’ve made the right decision,” Hamilton concluded.
