At the pre-Bahrain Grand Prix press conference, Lewis Hamilton was asked if he thinks George Russell can lead Mercedes, after he leaves for Ferrari.
At the end of 2024, Lewis Hamilton will leave Mercedes after 12 years with the team, to join Ferrari in 2025.
As a seven-time world champion, Lewis has been the driving force within the team, and now the question remains, who will ‘lead’ the team going forward?
For the past two years George Russell has been partnering up with Hamilton, so one would assume that he will be the driver the team will look to in the future. So, ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix, Lewis was asked if he believes George can actually be that person.

“I’m sure he can… I don’t know what else to say about it,” Lewis said.
“George is very technical, massively engaging and has come a long way since joining Williams and then joining the team.
“He’s incredibly close with Toto [Wolff, Mercedes team boss]. No doubt – that will be his position,” the Briton concluded.
