Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur says his team will not make a protest against Mercedes’ power unit, instead, they want “clear regulations”.
The biggest controversy that emerged at the beginning of 2026, has centred around the legality of Mercedes’ new power unit.
More specifically, rival F1 teams have accused Mercedes of having found a way of getting around ‘compression ratio limits’, as described in the new regulations.
These teams are calling for the regulations to be amended, which could lead to Mercedes’ power unit being deemed illegal.
The Power Unit Advisory Committee [PUAC], consisting of F1 teams, the FIA and Formula One Management [FOM], is expected to vote on whether they think regulations should be amended or not.
If the regulations remain as they are, there has been speculations that several teams could launch a protest against Mercedes’ power unit, at the first race of the season in Australia.
When asked about this, Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur ruled out a protest from his team.
“We are not there to make a protest,” Vasseur said.

“We are there to have clear regulations and to have everybody with the same understanding of the regulations, but we don’t speak about [a] protest.
“With the new regulations on the battery, on the engine, on the chassis, on the tyres and the sporting regs, we were going into the direction where we have grey areas.
“There were going to be different understandings of the regulations from team to team, and sometimes from teams to the FIA.
“It’s a direct consequence of the new regulation, and it was always like this. The most important thing for me is to get clarity.
“Everybody can accept that we made mistakes, or we didn’t have the same understanding before. But what we need is to have it clear cut that it’s now ‘like this’.
“I think it’s what we can expect from next week,” he concluded.
