After taking pole for the Australian Grand Prix, George Russell says the Mercedes W17 “feels more like the Mercedes of the good, old days”.
After years of struggles under old Formula 1 regulations, Mercedes seems to have adapted quite well to the new F1 era.
This was evident at Australian Grand Prix Qualifying, where George Russell and Kimi Antonelli pulled off an amazing front row lockout.
After the session, Russell gave his first thoughts on Mercedes’ new car to Sky Sports F1.
“I felt good out there,” the Briton told Martin Brundle.

“It was a clean session and I’m pretty pleased with how that went. It’s the first step of a long old season.
“The car looks amazing. The engine has been getting a lot of heat but people forget McLaren, Williams and Alpine have also got a Mercedes engine.
“The car is just mighty. It feels more like the Mercedes of the good, old days.
“I was quite relieved when I drove it for the first time,” Russell concluded
