Legendary race engineer Peter Bonnington – Bono was overjoyed after his young driver Kimi Antonelli won his first ever race – the Chinese Grand Prix!
Legendary race engineer Peter Bonnington – Bono has worked with some of the greatest Formula 1 drivers of all time: Michael Schumacher, and more famously – Lewis Hamilton.
Now, Mercedes’ Head of Race Engineering is guiding young Kimi Antonelli through his first years in Formula 1.
At the Chinese Grand Prix, Bono had an amazing and emotional opportunity to share the podium with Antonelli, after his first ever Formula 1 win, but also with Hamilton, who finished the race in P3.
Bono’s bond with Hamilton is legendary – he is the man who coined the phrase: “Lewis, it’s Hammertime” – and his Bond with Kimi was evident after the Italian crossed the finish line.

“Come on my son,” Bono told Kimi over the team radio.
“Yes, yes! We did it, we did it,” Antonelli screamed back.
“Well done there mate,” Bono replied.
“First race win, this is one you’re going to remember forever,” he concluded.
