The Bahrain government offered to vaccinate Formula 1 team staff ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix. Toto Wolff decided not to accept the offer.
Wolff has already contracted COVID-19 during the F1 winter break and it is likely that he still has some antibodies that protect him from the disease.
However, this was not the main reason why he rejected the offer to get vaccinated. Instead he says he decided to wait for “his turn” in England. The United Kingdom has a policy to first vaccinate those older than 50, and Wolff at 49 in not yet eligible to get the vaccine.
“In England we have a relatively good campaign and many people in the team have already been vaccinated,” the Austrian told ORF.
“I think as long as you don’t jump the queue, it’s good. And that’s why I made the decision for myself to wait when it is my turn.”

However, Wolff says other team members can choose to accept the offer.
“Of course, it is a personal decision. This also has insurance aspects. But I think it’s good there was a possibility here [in Bahrain].
“It is a very personal decision whether someone wants to get vaccinated here in Bahrain or not. Some F1 team members have taken it, others have not.
“I had a COVID-19 infection and I decided to wait when it is my turn,” concluded Wolff.
For those interested, Bahrain offered the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
