From 2021 the FIA is randomly picking a car after each race for “disassembly” and “deeper checks”, to see if it complies with technical regulations.
The cars are picked randomly after each race, and if a breach is found, the FIA can impound and seal components for further investigation.
“The stewards emphasise that while this is a new procedure in this championship, it is routinely carried out in other FIA world championships and competitions,” said a statement by the stewards ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix.

The first car to be “disassembled” was Valtteri Bottas’ Mercedes W12. After the Bahrain Grand Prix the FIA disassembled all of the internal components of the front and rear suspensions and carried out an analysis of all the sensors connected, establishing their rooting on the chassis and the connections to the control unit and other units.
The inspected components were found to be compliant with Formula 1 technical regulations and the results of the race were definitively approved.
This new measure will help the FIA find any potential breaches of the rules sooner than it was possible before, which will in turn provide the teams and the public with greater transparency.
