Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff reaffirms Mercedes’ commitment to Formula 1 and states the team will not let up in its championship fight with Red Bull.

Despite contemplating his future with Mercedes throughout 2020, Toto Wolff says both him and Daimler have decided they are committed to Formula 1 long-term.

“I was thinking about going back to finance for a year,” Wolff told Bild am Sonntag.

“But we at Mercedes have decided together that Formula 1 is not just another marketing platform that we want to use for a short time,”

“Since I own 33% of the team shares, I will definitely be there. But that doesn’t necessarily mean I have to be the team boss.”

Mercedes is now involved in a fierce battle with Red Bull for the 2021 championship. Although the Austrian team seems to have the better package this year, Wolff vows to fight until the very end.

“Red Bull is a bit faster on paper, but we’ll fight until the end. And we have to, because this championship goes on until the end.”

Since the Wolff already confirmed Mercedes has stopped developing its current car and decided to focus on next year’s challenger, in a different interview with GPFans Global Wolff was asked if ‘marginal gains’ will decide the 2021 championship.

“The words ‘marginal gains’ are a copyright of Sir Dave Brailsford who invented that many years ago for his cycling team.

“I think it is about really leaving no performance on the table, minimising mistakes, and that may at the end contribute to winning or not winning, and it could be with the tiniest of margins,” concluded Wolff.
