FIA race director Michael Masi was once again asked if Lewis Hamilton was right and there were commercial pressures to go through with the Belgian Grand Prix.
After the charade that was the Belgian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton said “money” was the primary reason for the FIA and Formula 1 to decide to do two formally required laps, so that they can officially say that the race was held.
The FIA and Formula 1 bosses obviously got up in arms about this, which led to FIA race director Michael Masi and F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali immediately denying these allegations.
Now, Masi was again asked if there were any commercial pressures to go through with the “race”.
“Absolutely not,” the Italian said.
Asked if anybody had spoken to him about this, he said:
If you like SilverArrows.Net, consider supporting us by buying us a coffee!
“No. None. Zero. Never. “Never and it would never become part of my consideration.”
He was then asked if anybody from Formula 1 management had spoken to him during the race.
“I speak to Formula 1 to keep them updated regularly,” explained Masi.
“Particularly from a television perspective because, obviously, they are broadcasting the world feed and so I always keep them updated regularly.
“We’ve got direct communication with the timing room, with everyone to keep everyone up to date because obviously the pictures that are delivered and the graphics for everyone at home are generated through them,” concluded the race director.
