Max Verstappen has received a five-place grid penalty for ignoring double-waved yellow flags on his final Qatar Grand Prix qualifying lap.
In the closing moments of the Qatar Grand Prix Qualifying, Pierre Gasly stopped on the start-finish straight after he struck a kerb which ripped off his car’s front wing and caused a tyre puncture.
On his final qualifying run Verstappen ignored the double-waved yellow flags, brought out by Gasly’s incident, and he proceded to complete his final flying lap, which improved his time a little bit.

Yellow flag rules are very strict and ahead of the weekend Race Director Michael Masi warned drivers that they must abandon laps when double-waved flags shown.
Well, the Dutch driver has now received a five-place grid penalty which drops him down to P7 at the start of the Qatar Grand Prix.
Valtteri Bottas has received his own grid penalty for ignoring single-waved yellow flags and has received a three-place grid penalty. Taking both penalties into account, the Finn will start from P6.
