In an episode of Netflix’s ‘Drive to Survive’, Christian Horner claims FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem told him that rival teams ‘want his blood’ because of Red Bull’s 2021 budget cap breach.

Back in October of last year, the FIA revealed that Red Bull has breached the 2021 budget cap.

At the time rival teams publicly asked for a harsh penalty, as they perceived the breach gave Red Bull an unfair advantage.

Ultimately, the FIA decided to hand the Austrian team a $7million fine, as well as a 10% reduction in 2023 aerodynamic testing time.

Afterwards, many F1 teams expressed their dissatisfaction with what they perceive to be a light penalty.

Now in season 3 of Netflix’s docuseries ‘Drive to Survive’, an episode called ‘Over the Limit’ deals with this very issue, and includes a scene where Red Bull team boss Christian Horner reveals what FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem allegedly told him, while discussing his team’s penalty.

“He [Ben Sulayem] said: ‘They all want your blood, they want to f*** you’,” Horner said.

He added that Ben Sulayem also told him: “You don’t have friends, I’m your only friend.”

“Well I don’t need friends,” Horner concluded.

If true, this is certainly a strange statement by the president of the FIA, an organization which governs Formula 1, and should therefore remain absolutely neutral.

You will be able to see the whole scene for yourself when season 3 of ‘Drive to Survive’ premiers on February 24.
