Red Bull’s Christian Horner is still defending Michael Masi, this time saying the Australian “perhaps applied the rules slightly differently”, but didn’t “break” them.

Red Bull’s Christian Horner, Max Verstappen and Helmut Marko have already defended Michael Masi and his controversial decisions at the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on more than one occasion, but they seem to have no intention of stopping anytime soon.

In Sky Sports’ new documentary called ‘Duel: Hamilton vs Verstappen’, Horner has a pretty interesting explanation of what actually happened in Abu Dhabi.

“He didn’t break the rules,” Horner said.

“He perhaps applied the rules slightly differently in that circumstance but there was nothing he did that actually contravened the rules.”

Max Verstappen, the man who won the 2021 championship because of Masi’s decisions, naturally also doesn’t agree with the FIA’s decision to remove the Australian from the position of race director.

“You can always argue was it right, was it wrong, what he did in Abu Dhabi,” Verstappen said.

“But I think what Michael stood for was always racing. I think it’s very harsh what they did to him and they really put him into the ground.”

The two-part documentary ‘Duel: Hamilton vs Verstappen’ first airs on March 6 at 7pm GMT on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports F1.
