George Russell performed the W14’s first run at Silverstone today. He “only did 15km”, but there is a 100km filming day scheduled for Thursday.

After Mercedes’ 2023 car launch, the team performed the car’s first run at Silverstone, with George Russell behind the wheel.

F1 journalist Chris Medland reports that the team did “only” 15km, but has a 100km filming day scheduled for tomorrow.

“Mercedes only did 15km in the end at Silverstone today to class it as a demonstration day, and has a full 100km filming day planned tomorrow,” Medland wrote.

“The team has the ‘usual niggles’ to iron out but insists that’s normal – had the circuit booked for both days to give itself options,” he concluded.

After his first time behind the wheel of the W14, George Russell gave his comments on the car.

“It’s been a smooth day, but it’s so difficult to say,” the Briton said.

“Last year we came away from that shakedown not with too many thoughts to be honest, we were so compromised by weather.

“But you’ve got to take the results from today [with] a pinch of salt and make sure there’s no major scares, and just make sure the car’s running in Bahrain. That’s going to be the true test.

“As much as we want to get out of a day like today, it’s kind of meaningless in that regard,” Russell concluded.
