Hamilton and Russell summoned over Belgian GP Quali incident

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have been summoned by the stewards for an alleged on-track infringement that occured during Belgian Grand Prix Qualifying.

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have been summoned to the stewards, after an incident that occured at Belgian Grand Prix Qualifying.

Lewis was driving ahead of George throught the Eau Rogue – Raidallion ascent, but near the top Lewis drove off the circuit and managed to rejoin the track, but very close to George, who had to lift off the throttle.

As a result of this manoeuvre, Lewis was placed under investigation, and both drivers had to report the stewards after the session.

Specifically, Lewis is suspected of breaching Appendix L of the 203 FIA International Sporting Code, which reads:

“Drivers must use the track at all times and may not leave the track without a justifiable reason.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the white lines defining the track edges are considered to be part of the track but the kerbs are not.

“Should a car leave the track for any reason, the driver may rejoin. However, this may only be done when it is safe to do so and without gaining any lasting advantage.

“A driver will be judged to have left the track if no part of the car remains in contact with the track.

“A driver may be reported to the Stewards should they perform any act which results in debris being brought onto the track.”
