After winning the Mexican Grand Prix, Lando Norris has regained the lead in the 2025 championship. However, he doesn’t believe the ‘momentum’ has shifted.

Lando Norris has been trailing his McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri in the 2025 championship standings for most of the year.

However, after his dominant win at the Mexican Grand Prix, he now leads the championship. Despite this, he said he doesn’t believe the momentum has shifted.

“I’m not a believer in momentum in some ways,” the Briton told Sky Sports F1.

“One great weekend really doesn’t mean anything. Two, three or four in a row means something.

“I’m fighting the best guys in the world who can turn it around any time, so there’s no point thinking I’m feeling amazing and the others aren’t, or whatever.

“I just focus on myself, focus on my own job. That’s all I can do.”

Lando Norris has initially been leading the championship early in 2025, but his team-mate Oscar Piastri managed to overtake him in April, and at the Dutch Grand Prix, after Norris’ shock retirement, the Australian’s advantage rose to 34 points.

When journalists put to Norris that Zandvoort must seem very far away now, he said he is not getting complacent.

“It’s still very clear in my head. I mean, you put that behind you. Right? You forget about that as much as you can, and focus on every race coming up. You forget about every previous weekend.

“Of course, you try and learn from every situation, but every weekend’s new and you have a fresh start to try new things and try and do better than before.

“And I feel like that’s what I’ve done very well this weekend. So, you know, the last few have been decent. This has easily been my best performance.

“But still a long way to go, so I just have to keep doing what I’m doing, keep trying to be consistent against some very quick guys around me. I think that’ll be good.

“But it doesn’t mean because I’m ahead or behind or whatever that I have to drive or do anything differently. So, just keep doing what I’m doing.”

Lando also did not discount Max Verstappen as a title challenger.

“For the championship, I mean, who knows? It’s still pretty tight between us. Max has still caught me over the last, what, six, seven weekends.

“So, yeah, write what you want. It’s your decision. But I’ve been keeping my head down, keeping focus, doing my own thing, and that’s all you can do.

“But every weekend’s new, every weekend’s different, and still a long way to go,” Norris concluded.
