Lewis Hamilton has issued a statement concerning the situation in Ukraine, after Russian forces invaded the country.
Following Russian invasion of Ukraine, Formula 1 announced it will not hold the Russian Grand Prix in 2022, and several drivers have expressed their opposition to the war.
“The FIA Formula 1 World Championship visits countries all over the world with a positive vision to unite people, bringing nations together,” a statement from the FIA read.
“We are watching the developments in Ukraine with sadness and shock and hope for a swift and peaceful resolution to the present situation.
“On Thursday evening Formula 1, the FIA and the teams discussed the position of our sport, and the conclusion is, including the view of all relevant stakeholders, that it is impossible to hold the Russian Grand Prix in the current circumstances.”

On Instagram Lewis Hamilton posted a message of support for the people of Ukraine, but also for the people in Russia who are opposing the conflict.
“When we see injustice it is important we stand against it,” wrote Hamilton.
“My heart goes out to all the courageous people of Ukraine who are facing such terrible attacks for simply choosing a better future.
“I stand with the Russian citizens who oppose this violence and seek peace, often at risk to their own freedom.
“Please stay safe everyone. We are praying for you,” concluded the Briton.
