Lewis Hamilton says Mercedes’ big upgrade package “will be the start of a new path” for the Team, but “it takes time to progress in the right direction”.
While Mercedes has been upgrading their car ahead of every race in 2023 so far, the big upgrades are expected to arrive when F1 moves to Europe in May.
Ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton was asked if Mercedes’ “full upgrade package“ will bring the W14 to “where it should have been at the start of the season, or hopefully better”?
“I think it will be an upgrade naturally but I think it will be the start of a new path for us,” the Briton said.
“It will be, at the core, still the same car but part of the path to getting to where we want to be, so we’re not going to hit the ground and be where we wanted to be at the start of the season.

“We’re not making up that crazy ground that there is to, but I think it’s really positive that so much great work has been done back in the factory.
“It takes time to progress in the right direction, so I’m excited for it,” Hamilton concluded.
As for upgrades that the team has brought to Baku, Lewis’ team-mate George Russell said:
“We’ve got a few new bits, just part of the standard development process throughout the year, but nothing that will transform it this weekend.
“But we’ll see,” George concluded.
