Red Bull has added a ‘clarification’ to their statement regarding Christian Horner’s Mercedes allegations, while Mercedes makes fun of them.
Red Bull’s Christian Horner might have put a foot in his mouth this morning during his chat with German publication Auto Motor und Sport.
First AMuS reported Horner said that Mercedes’ radically upgraded W13 “violates the spirit of the regulations”, and then added Red Bull thinks some parts of the car are “not legal”.
Then Red Bull denied that Horner gave “any interviews regarding Mercedes’ car”, and added “any quotes attributed to him this morning are incorrect”.
Horner himself added that he was “slightly surprised to be reading comments I’m supposed to have been making”.
Auto Motor und Sport continued to insist that the conversation did take place, and Red Bull quickly tweaked their original statement, now saying that they did not make any “official” comments.
“So we are clear, we have made no official comment regarding Mercedes’ car and will not be doing so,” the team’s spokesperson said.

It seems that Red Bull became aware that they cannot hide the fact that Horner did indeed make those remarks.
In his report BBC’s Andrew Benson claims that Horner spoke “extensively” with Auto Motor und Sport’s Michael Schmidt.
“In summary, it is clear Horner did speak to Schmidt (extensively, I hear) and did say what he is quoted as saying,” Benson tweeted.
“But it seems Red Bull now want it to go away, hence the remark about ‘no official comment’ (whatever that means). It won’t go away, though. Obviously.”
Schmidt’s colleague Tobi Grüner said he was confused by Red Bull’s denial.
“We also got the message by Red Bull, claiming that Christian Horner hasn’t talked to anyone,” Grüner said.
“Don’t know why they did that.”
Meanwhile, Mercedes’ social media team used the situation to poke fun at Red Bull.
When a fan asked on Twitter if George Russell ‘s number on the W13 is in a different colour than Lewis Hamilton’s, Mercedes replied with: “Just you wait, sunshine”.
To this Red Bull responded with: “That’s our line, thank you very much”, which prompted Mercedes to write: ”Is that an official comment?”
