While many are commenting on Mercedes’ improved pace in the last few races, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas say the team did not update their car.

Mercedes has shown incredible pace in the last few races, and especially at the Turkish Grand Prix.

However, Lewis Hamilton says the improvement was not due to car updates.

“Of course we’re trying to understand our car more and more and in the last race it was feeling great going into the weekend, and Valtteri (Bottas) did an amazing job to get maximum points for the team,” the Briton told Sky Sports.

“But I think we’re coming here and over these next few races, it’s still going to be very tight and close between us all, so we’re just trying to focus on maximising what we have.

“We’ve not updated the car, we’re just trying to finesse it and extract the most from it,” Hamilton concluded.

Mercedes has announced early on in the season that the team will stop developing updates for their current car, to focus on the 2021 challenger. This was again confirmed by Valtteri Bottas.

“I don’t feel there have been big steps made by us,” the Finn said.

“We stopped development early and we had the same car for a few races. It depends on the track.”

Bottas also gave his comments on the relationship between Hamilton and Max Verstappen.

“Thinking back to Turkey, I saw them talking and it looked pretty good actually. No different than usual.

“We are here to compete and then you don’t have to be friends, sometimes because of the adrenaline of a race you might come across as angry or something.

“But I didn’t see anything weird, really,” Valtteri concluded.
