Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff says he will discuss possible team orders for the Mexican Grand Prix with Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.
Valtteri Bottas will start the Mexican Grand Prix from P1, with Lewis Hamilton right behind in P2. Considering how closely the championship battle between Hamilton and Verstappen is fought, it’s only natural that a question about Mercedes’ possible team orders has been raised.
Toto Wolff says the team has not thought about this ahead of qualifying, but now they will have to discuss it.
“No, we haven’t discussed [it] because we felt that we were not in a position to consider to talk about,” the Austrian said.
“It would have been such a long shot, talking about the victory before qualifying. Obviously the situation is different now, and we are going to address it tomorrow morning, like we always do in the strategy meeting.”

Although this is not an easy conversation for Wolff, he acknowledges that in this situation such a decision might be necessary.
“I’m a racer, and I feel that such discussion is something that is always just disappointing in a way. But sometimes the circumstances oblige that.
“We will address it and discuss it first with Valtteri and Lewis, because they’re both involved in such discussion, and then see whether the race scenario actually obliges us to make any such call,” concluded Wolff.
Bottas has indicated of Thursday that he would be willing to help Lewis if the situation called for that.
