Lewis Hamilton has recently posted a video of him and his assistant and physio Angela Cullen doing cryotherapy. Angela explains why they do it.

After the Turkish Grand Prix Angela Cullen has added cryotherapy sessions to Lewis Hamilton’s training and wellbeing regimen. On Instagram she explained why.

“We take rest and recovery seriously,” Cullen said.

“Particularly during these triple headers to turn around after an intense race weekend and be ready for Thursday to start the next one.

“One of our new techniques we have introduced this weekend is Whole Body Cryotherapy. It stimulates circulation, and blood flow, distributing healing goodness like oxygen and other nutrients to help accelerate soft tissue healing.

“The theory is that the cold helps with inflammation and reduces your pain and other symptoms.

“It is a new treatment but preliminary studies suggest that cryotherapy may offer the following benefits: pain relief and muscle healing, weight loss, reduced inflammation, preventing dementia, reducing anxiety and depression, improving symptoms of eczema, treating migraine headaches.

“For me it is also a mental challenge as it is super tough and takes a lot of focus to push the cold barrier and I definitely feel great after.

“Interested? I recommend you give it a try. In the off season I do my local lake plunge daily… even when there is snow on the ground.

“Get those morning gains,” Angela concluded.

Judging by how well Lewis has performed in recent races, whatever they are doing seems to be working!
