Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has given his comments on the fact that Mercedes hasn’t issued any statements since they announced their intention to appeal.

At the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Max Verstappen became the 2021 champion under controversial circumstances.

It has come out since then that FIA race director Michael Masi broke the rules then deciding how to proceed with the Safety Car in the race, which ultimately gave Verstappen the win and the world title on a silver platter.

Mercedes has immediately protested his decisions and the race result, but was dismissed by the FIA. They then announced they intend to appeal this decision and were given 96 hours to lodge a formal appeal.

The 96 hour deadline is set to expire tomorrow, at the same time that the FIA’s Prize-Giving Gala is going to be held.

Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton haven’t spoken to the public since the conclusion of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Mercedes also didn’t appear at the scheduled FIA champions photoshoot on Tuesday.

Considering it is unknown what Mercedes’ next move will be, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner was asked to give his comments on the situation.

“I think the official period is until seven o’clock tomorrow [Thursday] that the right of appeal exists that the right of appeal exists,” Horner told RacingNews365.com.

“But, Max Verstappen is the World Champion. We welcomed him home to Red Bull today. He’s seen all of the team and I think it’s time to move on.

“Hopefully, he will receive the trophy tomorrow evening and be crowned as the World Champion. I have no indication of otherwise, I haven’t spoken to Mercedes or heard from Mercedes or the FIA to hear anything different at this point in time.”

The Red Bull team boss also said that any possible dispute in court would be between Mercedes and the FIA:

“The focus is on celebrating the success that the team has achieved, that Max has achieved this year. This is a dispute between the FIA and Mercedes.

“Of course, Red Bull is an interested party. So it would be represented accordingly. But this isn’t a dispute between Red Bull and Mercedes.

“Max won the race, he became the World Champion and we’re incredibly proud of him. That’s where our focus is,” concluded the Briton.
