What a shock to see that Angela Cullen has departed as Lewis Hamilton’s physiotherapist / performance coach / personal assistant!
Lewis and Angela have had a professional relationship for the past seven years, and she is generally considered to be his confidant and right-hand person, responsible for his daily routine, personal logistics, diet, sleep patterns, travel arrangements and more.
A little background on Angela – she is a physiotherapist and a former field hockey player from Auckland, New Zealand. Since 2016 she has worked for Finnish personal training and fitness company Hintsa Performance and was attached to the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team. She currently lives in the Alps region of France.
Her departure was announced on Instagram by both Lewis and herself ahead of the first practice session in Saudi Arabia. The parting was an amicable one, with Lewis noting that he was a stronger athlete and a better person because of her.

Sky Sports pundit Martin Brundle has since suggested that this change will be difficult for Lewis, as he and Angela were always seen together in the pit lane and the paddock, with her being very supportive of him, but he did say he doesn’t expect it will impact Lewis’ performance.
With matching tattoos reading “loyalty”, we know that the bond between Lewis and Angela is a strong one. Her support was important in many ways to Lewis, not the least of which was her positive attitude. So, what impact will Angela’s departure have on Lewis and Mercedes as a team? That is something we are going to have to wait and see. The parting was amicable, and there will most definitely be a replacement physiotherapist. As shocking as this all is, life does go on.
I wish Angela much future success in whatever course she decides that her future will take, and I give her huge respect for being such a large, positive part of Lewis Hamilton’s personal and professional life. Angela personifies dignity, grace, loyalty, and an excellent work ethic. Angela – thank you!
