Toto Wolff says he and Lewis Hamilton “just need time to sit over a coffee” to agree on a new Mercedes deal, and “that’s going to take half an hour”.

Immediately after the Spanish Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton said he was planning on sitting down with Toto Wolff on Monday to discuss his new Mercedes contract.

He further explained his contract status at the post-race press conference.

“I haven’t signed anything yet but I think we’re meeting with Toto [Wolff] tomorrow, so hopefully we can get something done,” Lewis said.

“We’ve had so many meetings. It’s just another one of the meetings that we’re having. And yeah, you can see today my results, my performance is not affected by [contract negotiations].

“But it’s always something that’s at the back of your mind so once that’s done, then you’re able to then focus more and think about the future,” Hamilton concluded.

When Wolff was asked about Lewis’ contract, he was very blunt.

“We just need time to sit over a coffee,” he told Sky Sports F1.

“That’s going to take half an hour,” the Austrian concluded.
