Lewis Hamilton says Red Bull’s 2021 cost cap penalty was “so small” and it “definitely, definitely” didn’t cost the Austrian team anything.

After it was discovered that Red Bull breached the 2021 budget cap, the team got handed a fine and a 10% reduction in aero testing time.

However, the team has since been dominating Formula 1, and currently sits comfortably at the top the standings.

Their domination also allows them to start focusing on their 2024 car earlier than other teams, which prompted Lewis Hamilton to call for a rule which would prevent teams from developing next year’s cars early in the season.

When asked directly about Red Bull’s penalty, Lewis repeated what has been said by many within Formula 1 – that the penalty did not cost the Austrian team anything.

“I don’t think it cost them anyways,” Hamilton said.

“The penalty didn’t cost them anything. It definitely, definitely didn’t.

“It was so small,” the Briton concluded.
