Lewis Hamilton says he is “trying to win a race”, but he cares “less to win a race this year and more to win the championship next year”.
Mercedes has been slowly improving their car, and with their big upgrade introduced in Monaco, they have made significant steps to catch up to Red Bull.
However, it is completely unrealistic to think the team will be able to challenge Red Bull for the title in 2023.
There is a chance, however, that Mercedes will be able to at least win a race this year. When asked about this, Lewis Hamilton said he is not overly concerned with with getting a race win.

“I’m trying to win a race,” the Briton said.
“I really have no idea. It depends where the car goes, I think we’ll hopefully get close. But I can’t predict what Aston are going to do, what Ferrari are going to do, where Red Bull will be.
“I hope so [Mercedes can win a race in 2023] but I also hope we don’t focus too much on winning a race this year.
“I care less to win a race this year and more to win the championship next year,” Hamilton concluded.
