Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff reveals who will replace him in the role of team principal if he is absent from a Grand Prix.
Since he joined Mercedes in 2023, Toto Wolff has seemed irreplaceable at the helm of the legendary outfit.
For the past several years, Toto has been saying he is looking for a possible successor, for when he decides to step away from the day-to-day operation of the team.
While this person is as of yet unknown, Toto has now revealed who will replace him in case he has to miss a Grand Prix.
“If I am absent from a Grand Prix, Jérôme [d’Ambrosio] will take my place,” Toto told AutoHebdo.
“It’s a situation you have to be able to anticipate.”

D’Ambrosio, a former F1 driver and Venturi Formula E team principal, has joined Mercedes in 2023 to head the team’s driver development programme.
“He is committed, and I have to say that half of what he says makes sense at grands prix,” Wolff continued.
“James Allison [ Mercedes’ technical director] has often told me that I say 50% intelligent things and 50% stupid things.
“We need to give him more time, but my impression is that he has the right profile to take on this role. He now needs to gain credibility within the team and in the paddock.
“He still has plenty of time, but if I am absent, he can take over,” the Austrian concluded.
