Mercedes’ Technical Director James Allison has recently extended his contract with the team, however, it is now being reported that Aston Martin attempted to poach him.

With Lewis Hamilton set to join Ferrari in 2025, questions are emerging over who might choose to leave Mercedes next.

During his appearance of the F1 Nation podcast, Formula 1’s official reporter Lawrence Barretto has revealed that Mercedes’ Technical Director has been targeted by a rival team in the past.

According to Barretto, before signing his new three-year contract with Mercedes, Allison was approached by Aston Martin, who wanted to entice the tech guru to join their team.

Because of this, Barretto reports that Mercedes had to do ‘everything possible’ to keep him. This ultimately led to Allison signing on with the team until the end of 2026.

Whether anything can change in light of Hamilton’s departure, remains to be seen.

It has to be noted, however, that Lewis’ current contract reportedly contains a so-called ‘non-poaching’ clause, which prevents him from trying to entice his Mercedes colleagues to join him at another team.
