The PA news agency reports that Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff will be absent from the next round of the Formula 1 Championship – the Japanese Grand Prix.
The PA news agency reports that Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff will miss the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix.
While the reason for his absence is not known, it has to be noted that he announced ahead of the season start, that he will miss certain races in the future.
In light of Mercedes’ struggles in the first three races of the 2024 season, and Toto’s recent comments where he said it’s “fair” to question his leadership, some may jump to the conclusion that his absence might be connected to the team’s recent string of poor performances, however, this is not believed to be the case.

In fact, his absence has reportedly been planned even before the season started.
Toto also missed last year’s Japanese Grand Prix due to having to undergo knee surgery, and at the time his replacement at the track was Mercedes’ Driver Development Director Jerome D’Ambrosio. However it is now believed that he has signed a deal to move to Ferrari.
It remains to be seen who Wolff’s replacement will be this year.
