Credible sources are reporting that Red Bull’s Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey is set to leave the team. Mercedes, Ferrari or Aston Martin could be his next destination.

After weeks of speculation, it appears that Adrian Newey’s departure from Red Bull is a certainty.

Several reputable media outlets are confirming the initial Auto Motor und Sport report, that says the announcement of Newey’s departure is expected soon.

According to reports, Newey already informed Red Bull of his intention to leave. His contract lasts until the end of 2025, but he reportedly believes he can get out of it by the end of 2024.

BBC reports that they have “independently verified” the story with “high-level sources close to Red Bull and Newey”. The same has been confirmed by Autosport.

According to the BBC, Newey wants to leave the team due to his dissatisfaction with the handling of Christian Horner’s “inappropriate behavior” case, which led to a power struggle within the team.

Newey is considered to be the best designer in the history of Formula 1, and he is believed to be the main person responsible for Red Bull’s current domination.

It’s not surprising that several teams have shown interest in Newey, with Aston Martin reportedly already giving the Briton a very lucrative offer.

Rumours of Newey’s potential move to Ferrari have also been widely reported, after he was seen at an airport in Italy, close to Ferrari’s Maranello HQ.

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff, has however openly said that Newey’s arrival to his team is also a possibility, and he has also been very vocal about his desire to bring in Max Verstappen.

It is believed that Max Verstappen could get out of his contract with Red Bull, if the team’s advisor Dr Helmut Marko leaves the team, however it is unknown if Newey’s departure could allow him to do the same.
