Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff says he believes Formula 1’s 2021 races will be able to play out according to plan, barring any unfortunate circumstances.

After having a reduced 17-race calendar due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Formula 1 is confident it will be able to hold 23 races in 2021, making it the longest season in the history of the sport.

Toto Wolff believes the season will be able to go on without a hitch.

“I think the sport has really done well,” the Austrian said.

“[For] the FIA and FOM to make sure we actually had a championship last year, and I think we were the only global World Championship that kept going.

“We had a calendar with 17 races and I’m pretty confident that we will have the same or more races this year.

“They are doing a super job and the structure and logistics function really well.”

Wolff thinks only one thing could jeopardize the season.

“As long as there is not a complete outbreak of a more aggressive variant, I think we should have an okay season,” concluded Mercedes’ team boss.
