Rumours have emerged that three teams have been found to be in breach of the 2022 budget cap, while F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali says “any infractions must be punished with sporting measures”.

Red Bull was the only team to breach the 2021 budget cap (Aston Martin had a ‘procedural breach’), but many believed that the penalty the team received was too light.

The FIA handed Red Bull a $7 million fine, and a 10% decrease in aero testing time.

Now, Italian branch of Motorsport.com reports that three teams have been found to be in breach of the 2022 budget cap, but the publication did not name any names.

While talking about the issue of budget cap breaches, especially in light of Red Bull’s controversial infringement, Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said any penalties in the future have to be sporting.

“I would like the penalty to be sporting in case of infringement, it is something we asked for very clearly,” Domenicali told Autosport.

“There are three regulations to be respected: sporting, technical and financial. Any infractions must be punished with sporting measures. You can’t go in other directions.”

Another issue with Red Bull’s 2021 breach was the fact that it was officially announced in October of 2022, well into the second half of the season.

Domenicali says he has talked to the FIA to make the whole process of review and detection shorter.

“Control is in the hands of the FIA. Personally what I have asked is to anticipate as soon as possible the publication of the investigations made by the staff of the FIA.

“But I say this only because, in this way, it does not give rise to speculation and comments that are not good for anyone,” the Italian concluded.
