Anthony Hamilton comments on Lewis’ outburst of emotion

Lewis Hamilton’s father Anthony says Lewis has “everything he needs to run at the top, and sometimes you just need reminding about that”.

After Lewis Hamilton won the British Grand Prix, his first race win since 2021, one of the first people to greet his when he got out of his car was his father Anthony Hamilton.

A visibly emotional Lewis then hugged his father, and later the elder Hamilton later explained what caused such a big outpour of emotion.

“A pressure relief valve, that’s all that was,” Anthony told Sky Sports F1.

“You know something, it’s always good to be there isn’t it.”

Anthony then said it was important that he was there for Lewis.

“I just wanted to be there for Lewis. It was nice to be there at the right time because he had a lot of emotion to let loose and I’m the only guy, I’m sure, that he would be able to do that with.

“So it was great to be there.”

The Briton added Lewis’ first win in two and a half years will be a “huge confidence boost” for him.

“He questions himself, like we all do occasionally. You question whether you’re still good enough, young enough, strong enough…

“I know Lewis, and as far as I’m concerned he still got everything he needs to run at the top, and sometimes you just need reminding about that.

“He knows he’s got it, and today… What a huge confidence boost,” he concluded.
