Aston Martin teases Mercedes for what they told Hamilton about Alonso’s car

Aston Martin team boss Mike Krack jokes his team thought Mercedes knows “more about our car than we do”, after Lewis Hamilton was told Fernando Alonso had a brake issue.

While Lewis Hamilton was chasing Fernando Alonso for P2 at the Canadian Grand Prix, Mercedes informed him that Fernando Alonso’s car is suffering from a brake issue.

After the race, Aston Martin’s team principal Mike Krack said his team was surprised when they heard this.

”I was surprised as well to hear that,” Krack said.

“I think Lewis was told we had a brake situation. We looked at each other and we said: ‘They know more about our car than we do, we should speak to our Mercedes engineers.’”

Aston Martin did however think the car has a fuel system problem, but it ultimately turned out to be a false alarm.

“We thought we had a problem with the fuel system,” Krack explained.

“But we were not sure, so as a precaution, we said the best is to save some fuel and to do lift and coast,” he concluded.
