Valtteri Bottas will be fitted with a fresh engine for the United States Grand Prix, his third switch in four races, which will trigger a five-place grid penalty.

Valtteri Bottas has taken on new engines in Italy and Russia, and now he is getting a fresh Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) ahead of the United States Grand Prix.

Usually this would trigger a ten-place grid penalty, but he will only drop down five places, because the rules state your first breach earns you a 10 place drop, while every subsequent breach drops you down only five places.

Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel and Williams’ George Russell are also taking a fresh turbocharger and MGU-H, which will drop them to the back-of-grid.

Considering that both drivers’ cars are powered by Mercedes, there are worries that the manufacturer is having some issues with its power units.
