Lewis Hamilton has been summoned to the stewards following Qatar Grand Prix Qualifying, but it’s not for a track limit breach.

There have been a lot of track limit breaches detected during Qatar Grand Prix Qualifying, which even helped George Russell and Lewis Hamilton improve their starting positions on Sunday, because after Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri’s lap times were deleted, the Mercedes duo was promoted to P2 and P3 respectively.

However, after the session Lewis Hamilton also got summoned to the stewards for a bit of an unusual infraction.

The Briton has allegedly exceeded “the time limit between the Safety Car lines during qualifying”, which refers to the minimum lap time in Q1.

Article 12.2.1 of the International Sporting Code dictates that at the Losail circuit a minimum lap time of 1:46:000 must take place.

However, if drivers have gone slower than that time because they were getting out of the way of approaching traffic, they will not be penalised.

Liam Lawson, Oscar Piastri and Yuki Tsunoda are also under investigation for the same alleged breach, but only Lewis has been called to the stewards.

UPDATE: The stewards decided all of the aforementioned drivers took “appropriate action” to avoid other cars, and this was the reason they went over the time. Therefore, none of the drivers will be penalised.
